Vermillion, South Dakota?

This morning Andrew hopped onto a plane headed for a popular winter vacation destination:  Vermillion, South Dakota. :) Little known facts about this quaint city:   on Friday August 24, 1804, Lewis and Clark camped out where the present day city is.  They happened to camp here the day after they killed their first buffalo.  Fancy that.  So, why is Andrew headed to a city where the average temperature in January is a frigid 18 degrees?
