Andrew began his last Track and Field season yesterday. For eligibility purposes, he is running unattached for the indoor season, but will be in UVU uniform, come outdoor. This boy works his tail end off, and it shows. He never misses a workout, he spent hours of his Christmas break at the track. He even pulled some strings and had a security guard unlock the Smith Field house on a holiday, to make sure he could practice! I feel like track and field season lasts all year, because even summer days are spent where else- at the track! When we were first married, often times the
hours a day (2pm-5pm sometimes later) would bother me. I didn't 'get it.' Now that I know Andrew better, I understand. He wants to do his very best, always. At the meets, or just at another day of practice. He doesn't cut corners, and he puts in the time.
Looking at Andrew lined up against the other 12 hurdlers that raced yesterday you will instantly see he is not the tallest, nor does he have the darkest skin... on the contrary, he's usually the whitest one out there. :) But as soon as that gun is shot, he is out of those blocks and moving.
He won his 60 m hurdles heat with 8.25, then went on to take first in the finals with 8.31 s.
He also ran the open 3oo m, wining his heat, and taking second overall with 35.92 s.
Open 300 m
Here is to the beginning of the end. Way to go Andrew!
