Last week I skipped town with the kiddos and went south to see our dear friends the De Souzas. I had just gotten over saying bye to them and wouldn't cry every time I passed their house, so it was time to see them! :) I drove through the night (enjoying a peaceful, quiet drive), and got there early Tuesday morning. It was so cute to see Ava and Makayla when they woke up and realized they were back together!! So sweet.
Tuesday we headed over to Newport Beach and enjoyed a day playing the sun and sand. I thought that Jackson might be hesitant to crawl in the sand. Wrong. He couldn't get enough. Makayla loved getting knocked over by the waves and chasing the tide.
Wednesday we visited the Santa Ana Zoo. It was the perfect size for two year olds. Plus it had a fun train ride and carousel. Wednesday night we had dinner with some other friends, the Robisons, that have also left Stockton for OC.
Thursday we hung out at a fun park for a few hours, had CAFE RIO for lunch, (still miss it) then headed over to IKEA to see what kind of damage 2 crazy girls plus their toddlers could do. I think the trip ended with Makayla and Ava being yelled by a grumpy old woman at for climbing up onto the self-chekout stand and playing with the scanning gun. :)
Friday we went back for more sun, sand, and waves, this time to Huntington Beach. We enjoyed watching the HUGE waves and surfers there as the girls (+Jackson) played. Afterwards we spent a few hours walking around all the fun shops. The girls were spoiled with new Havaianas.
Saturday morning I snuck out bright and early, with hopes the kiddos would stay asleep for a few hours of the drive. It worked. And they were actually asleep again by the time we pulled into the driveway. They were awesome road trip buddies. It was so fun to spend time with good friends and look forward to our next adventure together!
Fun summer trips, what a fun trip to see friends and enjoy the beach. You are one brave mama driving through the night with two babies. Is a Tucson roadtripvpossible?!!
